On Thursday, 19 December, City of Joy graduated 87 women of the 14th class. These women join 1117 others to make a network of 1204 graduates of City of Joy in the Congo. In a moment of pride, the day was unique in the life of each graduate as it marks the celebration of the coming back to her body after being a victim and survivor in her community and a leader through therapy and leadership training at the transformative City of Joy center.

On 21 June 2018, 89 women of the 13th class were honored as they celebrated their completion of a 6-month healing and leadership program at City of Joy. These women have been honored for their courage for overcoming their pain, and for their resilience and determination. These women have gone to reestablish themselves as independent women who have the skills to take control of their lives, and return to their communities as leaders.

On December 19, 2017, City of Joy graduated 90 formidable women leaders. The joy that came to the graduates and participants in the ceremony was immeasurable. The day was full of demonstrations. It was full of surprise. It was special and remains unique in the life of each graduate who was proud to celebrate herself and her femininity as a Vagina Warrior. These 90 women, who join the 938 others in 64 rural areas in 4 provinces of DRC, have demonstrated through speeches, dance, and humor how their lives changed from pain to power. They are determined to join their villages to make a difference — not just a small difference, but a big and critical one.

On February 14, 2013, one billion women and men shook the earth through dance to end violence against women and girls. Thousands from Bukavu and the surrounding communities joined City of Joy to rise against violence.

A partnership between V-Day and the 11th Hour Project, the V-World Farm is a sustainable farm based on 338 hectares of arable land located near the village of Nyanghezi, about 30 km South of Bukavu, approximately 20 km South of the City of Joy.
